About the
Artist
Born in Banff, AB, I lived on the mountain
in North Vancouver, BC until my teens. In those
days, the wilderness spots near our home were truly
undeveloped, and I spent many hours hiking and exploring
the coastal
wilderness. I think from those
early days I learned to be deeply connected to the
landscape around me. When my family moved to
Markham, ON, the flat landscape was a shock, but soon
small creeks and meadows showed their beauty.
After marrying, we came to Haliburton County in 1977,
believing it would be a short stay. Now having
raised my two sons in this visually rich and caring
place, I feel this is my true home. My work always
reflects my desire to capture the exquisite natural
beauty that I find around me. It is my deepest
source of inspiration.
Over
the years, I have experimented with the fabric medium
through quilting, wall hangings and other original
designs, but it is my current technique of layering
fabric to create perspective and mood that best captures
the images I want to share.
I
joined the Haliburton Highlands Studio Tour in 2000, and
have since been deeply honoured by the response to my
work. That initial tour marked the beginning of a
very exciting time in my life, which has included
featured-artist shows, teaching my technique to students
and meeting other artists and people like yourself, who
value original art work. The purchase of a new
home in Haliburton village has allowed me to establish a
studio that is open to the public. And so I
welcome you to my creative space and my vision of this
treasured part of Ontario.
